Celebrating Life: Celebrating Birthdays

“Happy birthday, wishing you more birthdays to come.” Ahh, birthday wishes. It makes us really alive. It makes us feel important. And most especially, it always wanna look us forward to our upcoming birthdays.

From the day we gain consciousness to our first birthday celebration we remember, up to each year we celebrate our birthdays and feel like we’re a little older, birthdays are always the best days to look forward to.

“Happy birthday, how old are you now?” What a most repetitive question we’re asked on our birthdays. And while we were able to say our age every birthdays we have when we were still young or when we we’re still in our teens and twenties, it’s a different case when we reached the thirties. We don’t even want to say anymore our age. We tried to just chuckle and just exclaimed back, “Oh, I’m still young,” or, “I’m still young at heart, you know.”

That’s a reality. We tend to say excuses telling our actual age. It’s because we fear sometimes other people might just called us “old”.  When  in fact in our thirties or a little more older, we feel like life doesn’t begin yet. But we can’t help it, that’s the way we think about it. Most of the time, age or getting older in particular is a big deal for us. So even if it’s not our birthday, getting asked about our age when we turn a little older is something we kind of freak out, sometimes.

But relax, we can’t blame our age.  You should just be happy with how old you are and be thankful to what generation you belong. As long as we can’t make Brad Pitt, Richard Gere, Tom Cruise or Leonardo Di Caprio or any of our favorite older movie stars turn younger, we can move past with our older age. We really live by our generation. And we could always be jealous of our older favorite stars or favorite person who couldn’t be the same age with us because they’re born ahead of us.

As we get older, you would notice that we just get old in age but not really in the heart. That’s why there’s a saying, “Age is just a number.” And with it we could go on saying we are forever 17, forever 21, or forever 29 in age. Choosing your forever age might help reduce the stress of realizing we’re not getting any younger. And it’s okay to choose that way because our heart beats the same, we still feel the same, love the same, inspire in the same way as we were when we were young, as if we never get old. What matters is you still always get to do what you love no matter how old you are.

So never stressed out on your birthday because you turn a year older! Birthdays are best partied to celebrate life, to celebrate the beauty of our existence, which is God’s gift to us. We only live once or die once, so celebrate life everyday as if it’s always your birthday. Cheers! Happy Birthday, March celebrants!
